Our dear friend, Rhonda, had been given only a few weeks to live. Near the end of her battle with cancer, her body was weak and frail, and becoming more so every day. She was unable to do much of anything for herself. At her invitation, my wife and I visited Rhonda and her husband for a few days. We were deeply and profoundly inspired by her courageous spirit. There was no elephant in the room; she spoke openly about her illness, eternity and her “date” with Jesus. In her weakness, she was strong because God was present with her. Through great physical pain she rests firmly on the promises of God. After a very blessed few days, we departed with heavy hearts knowing we would not see her again on this side of heaven. I’ll never forget her parting words; there are no goodbyes, I’ll see you next time. A courageous lady indeed!
There will be times in life when, as believers, we will find ourselves in desperate situations. While we might feel weak, it is during these times that God calls us to be strong and courageous. Perhaps you’ve lost your job and are financially burdened; been diagnosed with a terminal illness; overwhelmed with extreme stress; been abandoned by a spouse or perhaps something worse. Friend, God’s word is filled with promises. He reminds us to be strong and courageous! Not to be afraid or discouraged. He will be with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9). God says, don’t be afraid, for I am with you…I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand (Isaiah 41:10). Whatever the crisis in your life, you are not alone. The Lord your God…is with you (Deuteronomy 10:1). Whatever your circumstance you can be strong and courageous because of His assurance to always be present with you…I will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).
Your workplace challenge is to remember that God is so much bigger than any crisis that comes our way. Don’t try and be courageous in your own strength but place your full and complete confidence in God’s strength and presence. He is able to overcome the giant in your life; he will fight the threat and be with you. Whatever the crisis, be strong and rest in His abundant promises. Do it for His glory.
