More Important than a Resolution!

Good morning...This is it!  The final day of 2021! It has been a fast year.  Or maybe it has dragged by for you.  It's been wonderful in many ways.  Perhaps it has been the hardest of your life.  Maybe you feel like things are about the same at work.  Or, it could be that you feel like everything has changed.  No matter your perspective, tomorrow starts a brand new year.

With this annual transition comes much talk about new year's resolutions. Resolving to do better is a good thing.  Striving to accomplish more at work, for example, can be productive, especially if you develop and implement a strategy to support your resolution.  Just "hoping" doesn't usually affect much change but committing to action steps does!  The point is that you are hoping- for your work and for many areas of life- to be more and do better in 2022 than you did in 2021.

Much of life and most of our achievements are accomplished by working harder, doing better, going higher, and consistently putting our all on the line daily.  There is one thing that you and I can never achieve, however; one thing that all our hard work combined cannot earn... and that is eternal life.  Some call it salvation.  Others refer to it as a spending forever in heaven or in paradise.  It seems that we all want to go there. Sadly, there is a common misconception that with hard work and doing good stuff (at least more good stuff than bad stuff) we can get there.  All of us should live a good life.  The problem is that living a good life cannot help you get to heaven.

None of us is really good (righteous).  We are capable of doing good things, of course.  But at our core we are sinful.  The Bible says, "There is none righteous, not even one...For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  (Rom. 3:10, 23)  That wouldn't be all bad except God makes it clear that "the penalty for sin is death." (Rom. 6:23)  That is a scary thing if you really don't want to die and spend forever in hell, separated from God and all things that are good.  So what are we to do?  The answer is nothing because God has already done it.  He sent Jesus to die on the cross and He died in your place and in mine.  This is God's "free gift."  (Rom. 6:23)  The reason why you can't earn your way to heaven is that God has already made a way and Jesus is that way!  Jesus said to the guys hanging out with Him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6)  Thankfully, this way is available to all of us, no matter who we are or what (good or bad stuff) we have done or not done in life.  The Bible says, "Whosoever believes in Him [Jesus] will never perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)  That really is good news.  You and I don't have to work for it at all!  Jesus has already done the work on the cross!

Your workplace challenge is to go ahead and make new year's resolutions. In fact, develop them for your workplace and be a better employer or employee in 2022!  You will give God glory by doing so.  See your work as your daily place of worship and give God the best offering there possible!  But, more important than a resolution and the first thing you should do TODAY, if you have never done so, is to invite Jesus to come into your heart and take away your sins!  He will do it if you ask Him.  But you have to ask.  If you want to have a relationship with God (not a religion, but a personal relationship with God the Creator of the universe), then ask Him to come into your heart.  Just whisper a prayer, right where you are, and He will come live in you and never, ever leave! God is with you and He will hear you when you call out His name! Thank you for being a part of The Other 6 Days. Happy New Year and make 2022 count for His glory.
