Not Just Another Day

“Hi Ho, Hi Ho it’s off to work we go” are lyrics from the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but it is also representative of a daily perspective of most people in the workplace. For many, work is just another day on the job or in an office doing the same thing over and over. But for Christians, it should be much more than “the same ole thing”. Let me explain…

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the Lord (God Himself) appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a burning bush… (Exodus 3:1-2)

Moses was at work doing his job. His daily routine required that he continually lead his flock to find fertile ground. For Moses, each day was just another day “in the field”. There was nothing spiritual about being a shepherd and Moses certainly didn’t travel across the mountain expecting to encounter God. But God was there waiting. He revealed Himself through a burning bush and He had very big plans for Moses. He was calling Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage (Vs. 7-10).

I wonder…do you go into your workplaces expecting to encounter God? Probably not! Perhaps you view work as just another day on the job; a place to earn a paycheck. But, know that God is there…waiting…and He has big plans for you too! If God can use an unlikely man like Moses at work, He can use you.

Your Workplace Challenge is to go to work expecting to encounter God. He is there and He is waiting.  While He won’t appear in a burning bush, He will reveal Himself through the needs of others around you…those who are hurting and are in bondage to addictions, bitterness or an inability to forgive; those who are grieving, need encouragement, financial assistance or merely a friend to talk to. God wants to use you to help bring them out of bondage. So, Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s off to work you go…to Serve God and His people for His Glory.
